The Byzantine castles in Ouranoupoli, Sani, Nea Fokaia and Toroni
The archaeological site of Olynthos.
An important political and military center of the antiquity in Northern Greece. A town with the widest road network, with horizontal but also vertical avenues!
Archaeological data
The town of the classical period was structured according to the Hippodamus system, covering a distance of 600X300m, with building blocks that were divided in horizontal and vertical avenues. It is worth mentioning that the theatre of the town has not been discovered yet. There were two storey houses with interior yard. In the southern part there was the agora and in the eastern part the houses of the wealthy.
Among the mansions that were excavated were those of the Good Fortune, the Actor’s, as well as this of the Twin Loves. In those mosaic floors, pots, jewelry and clay idols have been found. The first archaeological findings came to light in 1928. The most recent excavations were done in the 90s.
